		收获季节 布面油画  (1976) Crown of the Year, oil painting on canvas by Li Jin Ming From the Dongguan series, it was a very common scene during harvest time.  People are busy shuttling the grain back and forth on the waterways to find places to lay it out to dry.  Li used dark yellows, not only to capture the colors of the season but also to emphasize the excitement and busyness of that time of the year, back then.  It is a beautiful and timeless country scene but one that will never be seen, in Dongguan, again. 	608.	Spring comes to Da Ban Shan: original oil painting on canvas by Dapu (Zhang Ai Min) 2009 Dapu (Ai Min Zhang) tells us that he used to pass this mountain scene on his way to paint other scenes over the last few years, and he always wanted to paint it.  Now, he finally has captured it in a beautifully colored and sizable painting, in the spring of this year, for us.  The mountains, in the background, done in black and dark green, are striking.  A path beginning at the bottom of the painting brings your eye to the herd of sheep, in the foreground, which is done in nice detail.  Springtime is only beginning, and the dark yellows of the grass and dark red of the shrubs make for a nice overall color balance.  A combination of colors, light and shadow, and brush work make the mountains appear three-dimensional. It has the sweeping grandeur of paintings by German artists, like Bierstadt or Hengsbach, especially, with the boldness of the dark mountain confronting us, something that traditional Chinese art theory would condemn.  But it has a softer, more impressionist style. 	798.	Looking Back, original oil painting by Tang Hai Guo Tang's animal paintings are allegorical, representing all of the simple Chinese country folk who have migrated to cities to try to make a better living for themselves and their families, back home in the home villages.  Usually, he includes a city skyline, off in the distance, as in this painting.  That, too, is part of the symbolism, showing how far many of those new city dwellers really are from the city, even though they are living in it: the disconnections. He's an older dog, now, and with age comes growing loyalty and commitment.  But, now and then, colorful bubbles will float by, acting as portals to the past, and they take him back to his carefree youth. 	758.	Northern Guangdong Scene, original oil painting by Tan Xue Sheng Guangdong Province is filled with mountains and streams.  Little towns sprout up in the most uncommon places and are built right up hillsides, like the one shown here.  Moreover, the style in housing has been changing, over the last several decades, from the peaked tile roofed houses to flat top houses, often with a garden on the roof.
